If the current developments are any indication, director Shankar's next movie Nanban (titled 3 Rascals
in Telugu) would be suffered badly in Andhra Pradesh. His films run
like straight movies in Andhra Pradesh. But Andhra Pradesh producers are
planning to crack down on dubbed movies.
A committee has been formed by Andhra Pradesh Film Chamber of Commerce to provide proposals to contain the spate of dubbed movies releasing in the state that are encroaching the business of straight Telugu movies.
The committee consisting of producers like D Suresh Babu, Dil Raju, Burugupalli Shivarama Krishna, Nattikumar and exhibitors and distributors like Bhupal, Rama Subba Reddy, Vijayender Reddy and Haranath Ramess has decided to pass some resolutions like increasing the tax.
Proposals
- Increasing the tax on dubbed movies from the current 20% to 50 %
- Only straight Telugu movies are to be allowed to release during the important festivals like Vinayaka Chaviti, Dassara and Sankranthi
- Restricting the number of screens for dubbed movies (while the producers' sector suggested 85 theatres across the A.P, exhibitors demand 150 theaters)
- These should be implemented from Jan 1, 2012
Once the committee comes to a unanimous opinion regarding the resolutions, government would be requested to pass the G.O.
D Suresh Babu says that they are not against for dubbed movies but they are in favour or putting high taxes like the Tamilnadu state is currently doing. If these are implemented, films like 3 Rascals , director Shankar's remake of 3 Idiots would be suffered heavily.
